Poem
(Impressions of artist Ross Brodar's paintings) "The rebel poet-artist" by, John-Paul Quinones
Psyche in motion, a toke, he seeks form in his solitary room, hallucinogenic imagery stirs the restless soul- a proletarian esthete that defines the orgasmic, the belly of the beast, disemboweled it bleeds, giving birth. Spooks & phantasmagoric creatures lurk a commentary of our angst filled environ. Lyrical, somewhat crude impasto strokes the painted surface with an undistinguished, exuberance, confessional, frenzied. The paint swirls, skates, jumps-salutes the spectator. The magnificent whore series: ( & other outcasts ) with their jazzy, hip, down-right gritty, tingling after taste have a fabulous rhythm. compels the soul.Portraits & other works: hyper-kinetic, deliriously manic, rewarding us with dazzling, doomed blue visage (s). With psychotic-hypnotic gazes, drugged pupils with insatiable hungers beware!A superb Picassoid face: a melancholy eyegasm of an expression. Its history, its biography before us-it speaks of great sorrow (s), perhaps yours & mine. The portraits, figurative pieces reveal a subterranean pleasure in handling both brush-work and impasto. Theyre convincing mugshots of alienated soulsdenizens of an outer-world. A universe with its own laws, its own criteria for beauty, a world of deranged poets, an anti-realism of great theatre, of carnivorous, tortured beingsthey co-exist with marionettes, mannequins & other humans. Serpentine whores: gaudy, easy pieces, les demoiselles, debauched with lascivious poses, tormented odalisquesthey are evocative of Loutrecs studies of L demi monde, Egon Schieles eroticism. Fin de Siecle oeuvre. Here the gifted painter translates a vision unto paper or canvas- or woodin our reality, in our dreams, nightmares-we have known actors, or characters of such exaggeration. They grieve, they make love, they breath in the artists painted landscape.Dislocated limbs! Hammeredicons brute realism a painted testimony of We the living in anguish. We dare not discard our masques on canvas is an intense truth. (one need only read a newspaper- or watch the nightly newscast.)The gifted artist, confronts us with his unique truth, his world with images so powerful to deny their existence is too decisive ourselves. He has painted our souls song. Exposed his private demons, the cast, the actosthe alter-egos, he fragmented selves theyre all before us, unrehearsed. Its thus necessity to create, to express an unexpurgated realm that moves us deeply convincingly. He has given us a documentary, the stories of an anguished soul, a poet-artist.

The Artist Ego
Dark Visions
Directed by Ross Brodar and Billy SharpDark Visions is the true story of an Artist who's past includes Vietnam, organized crime and the witness protection program. His artwork is a collage of all his demons past and present. Through his images we explore the life of a man who was a singer, a paratrooper and acting "capo" in the Gambino crime family, ending in disillusionment and horror of the witness protection program. Through some uneven turn of fate he became an artist, sometimes today he sits and wonders which stress disorder is worse, that of the Vietnam Veteran and his memories of war, or that of the old gangstar that turned on his own. This is his life story.
